Carlow Culinary Christmas Food & Drink Festival

7th – 9th December

Carlow County Council, VISUAL and Carlow Tourism are delighted to extend an invitation to all to attend a special Carlow Culinary Christmas Food & Drink Festival from 7th-9th December. Carlow Culinary Christmas Food & Drink Festival 2017 at George Bernard Shaw Theatre in VISUAL is a 3-day showcase of all things food and drink in County Carlow.

Featuring nightly food stalls, giveaways and Food Demonstrations from Neven Maguire, Kevin Dundon and Catherine Fulvio with each visitor getting a free bag of recipes and some free County Carlow products to use over the festive season. Tickets are €14 for each event. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7.45 p.m. nightly. Book early and avoid disappointment, last year the event sold out 3 weeks before the date.

County Carlow has a vibrant Food & Drinks industry and this event, hosted by Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office in partnership with VISUAL has been designed to celebrate what Carlow has to offer. Supporters of the festival include Carlow Farmers Market and Kenny McGuire Demos.

Thursday 7th December

Neven Maguire is Head Chef/Owner of MacNean House & Restaurant in Blacklion, Co. Cavan. Neven began cooking aged 12 years in the kitchen of the restaurant which was then run by his parents. Neven took over MacNean House & Restaurant in 2001 and it is now one of Ireland’s top restaurants and luxury guest houses, consistently winning awards for its food, wine offer, service and overall dining experience. MacNean House & Restaurant recently won ‘Best Restaurant’ and ‘Best Customer Service’ at the All-Ireland Irish Restaurant Awards 2017. The restaurant is joined in its success by Neve n’s more recent venture – The Neven Maguire Cookery School, where Neven hosts classes for adults and children across a range of themes. At the core of Neven’s philosophy is a dedication to using only the freshest and finest ingredients, and this is evident both in the work he does, and in his restaurant and cookery school.

Before taking over MacNean House & Restaurant Neven trained and tutored in professional cooking, and worked at some of the world’s top restaurants including Arzac, San Sebastian, Spain (3 Michelin Stars) and Restaurant Lea Linster, Luxembourg (2 Michelin Stars). One of Ireland’s most talented and innovative chefs, Neven has been named ‘Best Chef in Ireland’ at numerous awards and is recognised for his dedication to promoting Irish food across the world. Neven was also named Best Food and Drink Blog in Ireland ( Neven’s latest cookbook, ‘Neven Maguire’s Complete Family Cookbook’, is currently on shelves and he is working on a new Christmas recipe themed book which will be released later this year. He is also filming his new TV series ‘Neven’s Food Trails’ including visiting Italy’s top artisan food producers. The series is sponsored by Dunnes Stores ‘Simply Better’ food collection of which Neven is an Ambassador. In this role, Neven is touring the country meeting with the producers and family businesses who supply the very finest produce for the award-winning ‘Simply Better’ range.

Friday 8th December

Kevin Dundon is the Chef/Proprietor of Dunbrody Country House Hotel and Restaurant, located in Ireland’s sunny south east. Dunbrody was established in 1997 by Kevin and his wife Catherine. It is now considered to be one of Ireland’s premier hotels and restaurant. Kevin oversees a cookery school at the hotel which is already recognised as one of the most respected in the country.

Over the past few years Kevin has steadily built his media profile and has appeared on numerous TV channels including ESPN Cable, CBC (Live) Canada, UTV Great Food Live, BBCls Saturday Kitchen, RTE (Live) the Today Show, TV3, UTVas both chef and panellist. He is also a regular on Irish radio. His nine part prime time cookery show – Modern Irish Food with Kevin Dundon aired on both RTE 1 Ireland and PBS in the US and was nominated for three American Taste TV Awards, the highest awards for the Lifestyle Entertainment Industry in the US.

Kevin has published 5 books, “Full on Irish”, “Great Family Food”, “Recipes that Work” and more recently “Modern Irish Food” and” Raglan Road Cookbook”. His new book “Back to Basics with Kevin Dundon” was recently launched to coincide with his TV series of the same name which has been aired in Ireland, the US and Australasia. Kevin is a great supporter of food festivals and conferences, whose message is to spread the word of good quality food and food production. A recent new venture is Arthurstown Brewing, of which Kevin is a director and shareholder. The emphasis here is on quality rather than quantity, and Kevin believes that fine food and craft beer pairing is becoming a hugely popular trend in the food industry. Kevin and Catherine have three children; Emily, Sophie and Tom.

Saturday 9th December

Catherine Fulvio, TV chef, cookbook author, columnist and proprietor at Ballyknocken House and Cookery School, is one of Ireland’s most celebrated female chefs. She is third generation at Ballyknocken House where she runs her farmhouse B&B alongside Ballyknocken Cookery School, now a centre of culinary learning. Located only 40 minutes outside Dublin, Ballyknocken House offers an excellent location for weekend breaks and has long been a popular venue for corporate and team building events. Ballyknocken Cookery School adjacent to the house is one of Ireland’s top culinary destinations offering weekend cookery classes almost every weekend by Catherine and her dedicated team of expert tutors who demonstrate their knowledge and enthusiasm through a variety of themed cookery classes.

Born and raised on a working farm, Catherine has an inherent knowledge and understanding of food and cherishes the land and its produce and as a result she is an ardent supporter of fresh local produce. She has firmly established herself as a familiar face on TV screens both at home and abroad and is delighted to announce a second series of her latest TV series, ‘Tastes Like Home’ which she is currently filming and will be aired on RTE 1 later this year. She is also co-presenter with Derry Clarke and Paul Flynn on the popular TV series ‘Lords and Ladles’ and she is food writer for the RTE Guide and author of six cookbooks, including cookbook of the year 2012, Eat Like an Italian, her most recent cookbook, ‘Taste of Home’, is her most personal and is Catherine’s food story from Ballyknocken House and Cookery School.

Married to an Italian, her Irish blood and her Italian heart are a winning combination and with her effervescent charm and personality, Catherine Fulvio shares her support of fresh local produce through all she does. When Catherine is not busy in the kitchen she can be found ferrying her two teenage children around!
