Ireland Newfoundland Gathering 2018 present: Gala Concert
The Newfoundlanders are coming! Gala Trad Concert to open 13th Ireland Newfoundland Festival in Myshall, County Carlow.
The 13th annual Ireland Newfoundland Festival will kick off with a gala traditional music concert, with acclaimed musicians from Ireland’s South-East, in the Community Hall in Myshall, County Carlow, following the official opening of the festival at 8 p.m. on Friday, 17th August. The 70 or so visitors coming from Newfoundland and a big home crowd will be entertained by a star line-up, featuring trad band Rattle the Boards, headed by legendary Danú leader Benny McCarthy on button accordion, joined by Pat Ryan on fiddle and banjo and John Nugent on guitar with Danú founder member and Clancy family connection, Donnchadh Gough on uilleann pipes and bodhrán.
Amazing puppeteer and visual artist, Des Dillon, who has featured several times on the Late Late Show and who has used his textile skills to create absorbing theatre and puppet shows, is sure to delight and entertain the audience.
At a ticket price of just €15 euro, this concert – which is open to the general public – is fantastic value. As the name Rattle the Boards suggests, this is a line-up that, with its infectious sense of fun and the lift of the music, will have the audience on its feet and rattling the floorboards.
