This route follows the forest road passing through plantations of sitka spruce and lodgepole pine. From the foot of John’s Hill there are fine views and as you progress around the hill they change continuously, passing the sandpits around Kildavin, the bridge over the River Slaney and the town of Bunclody. Blackrock Mountain and Mount Leinster dominate the skyline as you face back towards the start.
