Tourism Information and Administration QQI Level 5 / Free Course

Carlow Tourism, in association with Kilkenny and Carlow ETB and the Local Enterprise Office, are running a Tourism Visitor Care course and Tourism Information and Administration course, as part of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. These are free courses, but booking is essential.

This course is open to tourism providers and community groups and will be particularly relevant to those in front of house positions in both large and small enterprises.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Organisation of an effective front office in a tourism business
  2. Key principles of marketing, retail selling, display and merchandising
  3. The reservations process and the various sources of reservations in Irish tourism and hospitality
  4. Cross-selling, up-selling – extending the visitor stay and maximising visitor spend
  5. Converting enquiries into bookings and closing the sale
  6. Bus tours of the county taking in key visitor attractions (see below for programme) – 26th April and 10th May 2018 (full day tours)

11.30 a.m. Departure Myshall Village for Huntington Castle, Clonegal
11.45 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. Tour of Huntington Castle and Gardens in the company of Alex and Clare Durdin-Robertson, owners
12.30 p.m. – 1.45 p.m. Travel via Mount Leinster and Kilbrannish Forest Recreation Area to the Borris Viaduct and onwards to the 7th century ecclesiastical site of St. Mullins
1.45 p.m. – 2.45 p.m. Lunch at the Mullicháin Cafe, The Quay, St. Mullins
2.45 p.m. – 4.15 p.m. Tour of St. Mullins Heritage Centre and St. Mullins Village including a short walk to St. Mullins Lock
4.15 p.m. Departure St. Mullins via Borris to Myshall and Carlow (stop at the Clashganny Viewing Point and Clashganny walks)
