🍂Join us for a relaxing Sunday stroll along the Barrow Track from Milford to Carlow Town, a great way to unwind and enjoy the vibrant autumnal colours of the season. The gentle pace of the route makes it accessible for all, while the lush greenery and serene riverside views provide a tranquil escape.

As you arrive in Carlow Town, you’ll be greeted by a town that’s looking better than ever, especially in light of its recent success in the European Entente Florale competition. The vibrant urban displays, tree-lined streets and rain and community gardens reflect Carlow’s passion for the environment and are all part of the town’s appeal, making it the perfect place to explore and relax after your walk and refreshments.

Milford which marks the start of your walk is a place of surprising historical significance. Though it now stands as a peaceful and picturesque riverside area, it was once a bustling industrial hub in the 19th century, powered by the River Barrow. In its heyday, Milford was home to the largest milling site in pre-Famine Ireland, with three enormous mill buildings that were among the largest industrial structures in Europe at the time. Founded in 1784 by John Alexander, Milford’s rise to prominence came with the construction of its iconic castellated mills by 1810, transforming the skyline and creating a lasting legacy.

Today, visitors can enjoy this beautiful location while appreciating its fascinating industrial past. An idyllic stop along the Barrow Way, this peaceful rural setting is home to a diverse range of habitats, plants and animals, with the heron and kingfisher making frequent appearances.
In association with Féile an Fhomhair and Glór Cheatharlach. For full details of the festival programme visit facebook.com/glor.cheatharlach
