Myshall sits at the foot of the northern slopes of the Blackstairs Mountains. The mountains provide a stunning backdrop to the lush pasturelands and winding country roads. Additionally, Myshall is part of the scenic Mount Leinster Heritage Drive. This route offers visitors breathtaking views of Mount Leinster and the Nine Stones vantage point.
Myshall offers a rich religious history, and is the birthplace of notable saints, St. Finian and St. Columbanus. The village’s spiritual heritage is reflected in its most famous landmark, the Adelaide Memorial Church.
The Adelaide Memorial Church often described as an “exquisite church of rare beauty,” is a stunning architectural piece modelled after Salisbury Cathedral in England. This architectural gem was completed in 1912 by John Duguid of Dover. It was created in memory of his wife, Adelaide, who passed away in 1903. His daughter, Constance, also inspired the church’s creation after she tragically died in a riding accident near the village.
This exquisite church features intricate details such as marble, mosaic, woodcarvings, stained glass, and ironwork. The craftsmanship and attention to detail make it a significant attraction for visitors interested in history, architecture, and art.
To visit the church, you can contact Mrs. Bridie Daly, who holds the key (059-9157671. White bungalow opposite the church grounds). Please call in advance to arrange access. Alternatively, you can reach John Kelly at 059-9157584 or 087-9293661 for more information or assistance with your visit.
