The Carlow Art Collection
The Carlow Art Collection is a highly prized collection held in trust for the people of Carlow and its visitors and boasts the work of many internationally acclaimed artists. Artists included in the collection are Peter Howson-England, Iain McColl-Scotland, Dick Joynt-Ireland, Hans Tyrrestrup-Denmark, Hughie O’Donoghue-England/Ireland, David Blackburn-England, Paul Schneider- Germany, Barbara Rae-Scotland, Vanessa Gardiner-England, Will MacLean-Scotland, Peter Prendergast-Wales, Michael Warren-Ireland and Viktor Zevakin-Russia. At its core is a collection of invaluable drawings by Carlow’s most famous artist Frank O’Meara (1853-1888) who moved to Paris to study, later joining an established artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing.
The collection is housed in the historical 18th century Carlow College, College St., Carlow Town and is open to the public Monday-Friday 9-5pm (except bank holidays). To help defray costs, a donation would be acceptable or a commemorative catalogue may be purchased at reception for €5. Admission is free.
