2023, “THE COLUMBAN WAY” Carlow to Athy Inaugural Walk
SATURDAY 15th APRIL 2023 Carlow Town to Athy Town, County Kildare, a stretch of 19kms. This is a fund raising event and all money raised will go towards the Columban Way Trail Development.
Following in the footsteps of Saint Columbanus ‘THE COLUMBAN WAY’ is a pilgrim trail along his journey taken during the 5th and early 6th century from his home parish of Myshall in the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains, Carlow through Kildare to begin religious studies in Fermanagh and Bangor, Co. Down. At the age of 48 he travelled to Europe founding monasteries along the way in France, Germany, Austria, eventually settling in Bobbio, Italy where he was laid to rest in 615AD.
