Muine Bheag Arts is pleased to present COMMUNE from 15th – 25th August 2025. Taking place in and around the Muine Bheag Community Centre, the programme unfolds as a collection of live events, workshops and public interventions.
COMMUNE is a site for assembling and disseminating ideas, emerging from a central studio and gathering space shared by artists, community groups, collaborators and graduates-in-residence. COMMUNE can be understood as a series of small collective actions and gestures which reach towards systems of support and connection.
The programme includes contributions from: Anna Aleksejeva, After School Special, Marian Balfe, BEAM Services, boring girls, Bloomers, CATU, Coracle, Ciara Davitt, Nina Fitzgerald Graham & Mica Moroney, Cian Lawler, Chloe Maguire (Distro: Live Publishing), Emily Mc Gardle, Niamh Seana Meehan & Lucie McLaughlin, Liliane Puthod & Ingrid Lyons, Queer Shed Sligo and Lily O’Shea.

Public Artwork Series: a framework for me and you – Lily O’Shea: 15th – 25th August
Series of public artworks by Lily O’Shea which responds to conditions of precarity within the context of the housing crisis and points towards alternative ways of looking at space and home.
Public Intervention: K7 dans la 4L – Liliane Puthod & Ingrid Lyons: 15th – 25th August
Billboard intervention by Liliane Puthod and Ingrid Lyons created following a pit stop in the town as part of tour de force.
Exhibition: Distro Live Publishing: 24th – 25th August, 11am – 5pm daily
Temporary exhibition of works developed during Distro: Live Publishing, curated by Chloe Maguire.

COMMUNE Launch + Beacon Publication Launch: 15th August 6pm
Celebrate the start of the COMMUNE programme and the launch of new publication Beacon by Niamh Seana Meehan.
Cyanotype Workshop: Cian Lawler: 16th August 2pm
Create a home-made photogram with artist Cian Lawler using natural materials gathered from the Community Garden and digitally processed negatives.
Tour with artist Lily O’Shea + Discussion with CATU: 17th August 2pm
Lily O’Shea will lead a tour of her public artwork series, a framework for me and you, followed by a discussion with members of CATU. Refreshments provided.
Type Design Workshop: Anna Aleksejeva: 21st August 2pm
Explore the fundamentals of type design with Anna Aleksejeva by creating your own letters using a variety of materials and techniques. No experience necessary, materials provided.
Listening Session: K7 dans la 4L – Liliane Puthod & Ingrid Lyons: 22nd August 4pm
Following a viewing of their public intervention, listen in to Liliane Puthod and Ingrid Lyons live from their car where they will play cassette tapes and share anecdotes about their touring adventures. Refreshments provided.
Card Club: Marian Balfe: 22nd August 7pm
Marian Balfe invites card-playing enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts to play with her unique Sham Solitaire deck. No card-playing experience required.
Screenprinting Workshop: Emily Mc Gardle: 23rd August 2pm
Experiment with drawing and screenprinting to create a unique artwork, led by artist Emily McGardle. Materials provided.
Presentation: Graduates-in-residence: 23rd August 5pm
Presentation by graduates-in-residence Ciara Davitt, Nina Fitzgerald Graham and Mica Moroney.
Performance: The Glimmers: 24th August 4pm
Live performance of music and songs by members of BEAM Services Bagenalstown.
