The gardens at Burtown House near Athy will open every Wednesday – Sunday and feature an extensive collection of snowdrops, aconites, hellebores and early bulbs.

A painting workshop with botanical artist Shevaun Doherty takes place on February 8th and 9th  – Shevaun is well known as one of Ireland’s most famed botanical artists and winner of Best in Show at Bloom in the Phoenix Park 2018 for a fabulous drawing of a golden eye lichen.

Accompanied walk and talk garden tours will take place on February 16th.

Hearty brunches and lunches using produce from the organic kitchen garden served at The Green Barn Restaurant

Botanical Art Workshop
Celebrating Snowdrops

8th – 9th February 2019, 9:00 am, Burtown House

Celebrate the arrival of Spring with this two-day botanical art workshop painting snowdrops with award – winning artist, Shevaun Doherty.

Burtown House is the family home of one of Ireland’s greatest botanical artists, the late Wendy Walsh, and the spectacular display of beautiful snowdrops that appears in her garden each spring continues to delight artists and garden enthusiasts.

This workshop will teach you the various watercolour techniques needed to capture the delicacy of snowdrops. We will begin with observational drawing and tonal studies, before moving on to creating layers of colour in wet – on – wet, glazing and dry brush to convey realistic light and form . An experienced tutor, Shevaun will demonstrate her painting techniques as well as giving practical advice on how to set up botanical subjects for painting, how to choose the right colours, and how to finish and present your artwork.

Whether you are a beginner or simply wish to improve your painting skills, this class will encourage and inspire you to paint.

Class numbers are limited to ensure that each person gets individual support.

Indulge your love of nature and art on this two-day botanical art workshop painting daffodils with award-winning artist, Shevaun Doherty.

Shevaun Doherty

Shevaun Doherty is an Irish botanical artist whose highly-detailed paintings capture the delicate intricacies of nature.

Passionate about the conservation, she uses her art to raise awareness, recently designing a set of Irish postage stamps featuring native bees, and the logo-image for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.

She exhibits regularly in Ireland and internationally, winning numerous awards for her work, including five Gold medals at Bloom, and the Joanna Craig McFeeley Rose Bowl at the Society of Botanical Artists exhibition, Westminster, London 2017.

Shevaun finds the role of encouraging and mentoring emerging artists deeply rewarding.

She is a tutor for the SBA Distance Learning Diploma Course, and gives regular workshops at home and abroad. She also teaches botanical art online through her website.
