Carlow Tourism is delighted to invite participants to a special guided walk along the picturesque River Barrow on August 19th, celebrating the life and legacy of the renowned Victorian scientist John Tyndall. This walk will be departing from the Garden of Remembrance in the centre of the village at 2 p.m., this unique event offers a chance to retrace Tyndall’s daily journey from his home in Leighlinbridge to Ballinabrannagh School, where he was inspired and mentored by his exceptional teacher, John Conwill. This guided walk offers insights into Tyndall’s formative years and the beautiful surroundings that played a crucial role in shaping his future contributions to science and the world of mountaineering. Discover the charming landscapes and stories of Tyndall's youth on this immersive experience, ideal for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Each year Heritage Week kicks off on the third weekend of August and runs until the end of the following weekend. Many national and local community organisations participate by organising events throughout the country.

The Columban Way Pilgrim Walk for Peace, Healing and Well-being: A Journey of Discovery and Reflection
Explore the serene beauty and rich heritage of the Columban Way during Heritage Week as we follow in the footsteps of the inspirational sixth-century monk, St. Columbanus. Born at the foothills of Mount Leinster in County Carlow, this transformative walk covering in total some 570km promises time and space for quiet reflection and a peaceful journey through some of Ireland's most picturesque landscapes.

Creative Ireland Carlow is inviting all young people to get creative, try something new, show off their skills and take part in one of the 30 free Cruinniú na nÓg events taking place around the County on Saturday 15th June 2024. The Cruinniú na nÓg programme is led by the local Creative Ireland Carlow Culture and Creativity Team, coordinated through the County Council Arts Service, with huge support from local youth organisations, creative practitioners, and community groups.
