Ardattin is a picturesque country village, 6 km south of Tullow near the River Slaney. Located close by was Ballintemple House, birthplace of Pierce Butler, soldier, statesman and signatory of the American Constitution.
Although the house was sadly destroyed by fire in 1913, an extensive tree nursery tended by the State forestry service, Coillte, now occupies the Ballintemple Estate which is also the base of the National Tree, Shrub and Seed Centre in Ireland. The beauty of this village is strengthened by the pride of its people, which is reflected in its overall character.
