  • Tour of Ballydarton House, Co. Carlow in Association with Historic Houses of Ireland – Heritage Week

    A strikingly inventive Tudor-revival house dating from 1830, lovely Ballydarton was designed by the notable architect Daniel Robertson who was responsible for many fine houses in the south east of Ireland including Dunleckney Manor and Wells House. When writing to Henry Faulkner of the nearby Castletown House in 1835 about Walter Newton of Dunleckney, Robertson wrote: “I hope he has seen my beautiful, my own Ballydarton, that house is my pride”.

  • Tours of Huntington Castle, Co. Carlow – Heritage Week

    In association with Historic Houses of Ireland journey into the past with a guided tour of Huntington Castle. Hear stories of its historical occupants, while meandering through passages to the living quarters, formal rooms & even the dungeon home to the Temple of the Goddess & the ancient Holy Well. Outside are Victorian terraces, an ancient yew walk and recently restored 17th century formal gardens which visitors are free to explore after the tour.

    The Tullow Agricultural Show, also known as the County Carlow Show, is one of the largest one-day events in County Carlow.

    Founded in 1946, the Tullow Agricultural Show prides itself among the most established agricultural shows in Ireland. It is typically run on the third Sunday of August every year!

    The event is designed to raise awareness of the value of oral history projects in County Carlow. It is designed to give advice and guidance for groups/ individuals who may wish to undertake an oral history project. Participants will hear about the Heritage Council funded projects on the oral history in Carlow Town and the future direction of the project that will be of value to local individuals, business owners, tourists and researchers.
