Altamont Gardens Rhododendron Week Monday 22nd – Sunday 28th May
This year Altamont Gardens are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Fielding Lecky Watson (father of Corona North). Fielding started the Rhododendron collection in Altamont in the 1920’s.
On the birth of his daughter Corona North he named his favourite rhododendron after her, as the rhododendron was in full bloom, the morning of Corona’s birth.
The Corona Rhododendron can be seen, still today in full bloom in the Altamont Gardens during rhododendron week, displaying its full cerise pink flowers.
