How to Make a Cult Cabaret Banger
Join multi-award-winning musical satirists Bourgeois and Maurice for exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into how their process has evolved over 16 whirlwind years.
Hailed as undisputed neo-cabaret stars of London’s alternative performance scene since 2007, Bourgeois and Maurice have released 6 albums and toured the world with eight full length theatre shows, collecting fans from Belgrade to New York. They have performed at the Royal Academy of Arts, Southbank Centre and Sadler’s Wells and regularly appear at Soho Theatre in London.
In 2020 they enjoyed critical success with their epic space opera musical Insane Animals, commissioned and produced by HOME Manchester, and directed by THISISPOPBABY’s Phillip McMahon. They have also written original songs for the Shakespeare’s Globe production of Titus Andronicus directed by Jude Christian which opened at the Sam Wanamaker Theatre in January 2023.
Bourgeois and Maurice (aka Liv Morris and George Heyworth) made their Irish debut at THISISPOPBABY’s Queer Notions Festival in 2009 and have since played Electric Picnic, Alternative Miss Ireland, YESTIVAL, Westival and Beyond the Pale Music Festival, entertaining audiences and inspiring artists at every juncture.
In a very special conversation with Jennifer Jennings (THISISPOPBABY) and Cian Kinsella (Lords of Strut), Liv and George talk, walk and sing us through their inspirations and approaches to songwriting, satire and sophisticated silliness.
