Tullow is located on the River Slaney Valley in the midst of rich, fertile agricultural land. The town boasts a rich historical heritage, with numerous antiquities including the ancient holed stone Cloch a Phoill in Ardristan, the prehistoric ring fort at Rathgall, and the prehistoric burial site at Bawnoge.
Tullow is also the ancestral home of the famous Wolseley family – Frederick York Wolseley lent his name to the famous Wolseley car. Locally, Tullow is referred to as the “granite town” due to the fine stone used in its walls and public buildings.
